Over the last fortnight our readers have been nominating the top 10 takeaways in Stroud, and for the next week we’ll be profiling each of them so you can choose the Stroud News & Journal Best Takeaway 2021 winner.

We’re halfway through rounding them up, having revealed that Felt Café, Birch Restaurant, the Chalford Chippy and Thai 2 Go are among the top ten and given you a taste of what they have to offer – pun very much intended.

Up next is the Jerk Box, a Caribbean and Jamaican takeaway run by husband and wife Ollie and Holly French-Bell from the kitchen at their home in Cambridge, near Slimbridge.

The pair set up shop during the first lockdown and were voted into the top 10 despite only delivering 40 – 50 meals each Friday due to the kitchen’s capacity.

“I was speechless, I was quite flabbergasted. I thought it was a joke at first, because we’ve only been around for a year and we only sell maximum 50 boxes a week,” said Mr French-Bell.

“We’re small fish in a big pond so to get that recognition is really rewarding and it made us both realize what we could achieve.”

The venture’s success has motivated the couple to move into a bigger, commercial premises over the course of the next year.

Right now, despite living on the edge of the district, Ollie delivers food to anywhere in Stroud, Stonehouse, Sharpness and Dursley.

“Cooking is a passion and something we love doing together so to win would put us on the map and set us up for where we’d like to go with our business,” he said.

“I’d be over the moon, I’d be absolutely speechless,” added Ollie.
