I would wholeheartedly agree with Peter Hajdukiewicz that it would be great if there was safe cycle access from the route 45 cycle track to Ebley Mill.

When the Ebley bypass was planned in the 1990’s by the county council I, along with other campaigners managed to get the route changed avoid damage to the cycle route and loss of large number of trees, ensured a light controlled crossing was installed and a ramp down from the track under the old railway bridge created.

Unfortunately the path from the railway bridge to Ebley Mill is designated a public footpath, rather than a bridleway or cycle route.

Public Rights of Way is the responsibility of Gloucestershire County Council, not Stroud District Council and despite the best efforts of their officers over the years they have been unable persuade the landowners to allow its designation as a cycle route.

Yours Sincerely

Cllr Simon Pickering, Chair of SDC Environment Committee
