Progress has been made in the campaign to fix the pavement on Threadneedle Street in Stroud.

Last month the SNJ published the concerns of shopkeeper Amrit Fatania, who owns 4 Seasons Market.

He launched a petition calling for the uneven pavement outside his shop to be fixed after witnessing two shoppers trip and fall.

He wrote at the time: “They were both injured physically as well as leaving mentally and emotionally distraught.

“This is in addition to a number of other people who have stumbled, and lost balance due to the failure to repair the uneven pavement.

“Furthermore, a number of customers have informed us that they are unable to access the shop as either they cannot physically get in safely or fear they may fall.

“The vulnerable and elderly residents of Stroud should be able to walk and access grocery shops without fear or risk of injury.”

Since then Gloucestershire County Council has repaired part of the pavement, although another section is yet to be fixed.

Severn Trent Water are thought to be responsible for the section of pavement that remains unrepaired.

Speaking about the reaction to last month’s article Amrit said: “Some people from Highways came over the next day and fixed the pavement to the left of the shop which is really great because now people don’t have problems accessing it.

“Lots of people have said that they feel much safer.

“We are really happy with it and more importantly the residents are really happy with the part that was done.

“It’s an improvement but it’s not complete.

“It would be really good to see a little bit more progress.”

Referring to one of his injured customers he added: “She has been back in the shop and she was really pleased to see that some work has been done."

A spokesman for Severn Trent said: “We’ll be sending teams to investigate the uneven path on Threadneedle Street as quickly as possible.

“If the cause has anything to do with our network, we’ll look to fix the problem and return the road back to normal.”
