ROADWORKS by both Openreach and Gigaclear have been causing chaos in the Nailsworth area today.

But Openreach are now set to pull out, which will help to ease the situation.

The Openreach engineering team said that their works were due to start today, but have now been 'aborted' as there is already a road closure in place on Horsley Road.

They will now need to reapply for permission from the Highways authority in order to complete the job.

Openreach had been due to carry out works for new cabling.

To facilitate this work, a road closure and gully sucker were required to access their junction boxes located in the carriageway.

Jamie Flint, Gigaclear regional manager for the West, apologised for the inconvenience the works are causing, and gave an update on the situation.

He said: "Gigaclear has been working hard in the area to bring ultrafast full-fibre broadband to homes and businesses around the Nailsworth area.

"Delivering and installing this infrastructure is an enormous undertaking, which can sometimes be disruptive. We do have to temporarily close roads from time to time or use temporary traffic lights, for the safety of our build teams, residents and other passing traffic.

"As with all utility companies working in this area, we work closely with Gloucestershire Highways for traffic management - we apply for our permits in accordance with their regulations and work begins once a permit is approved.

"Traffic notices are available on One.Network.

"The 5-way traffic lights on Spring Hill is on a complicated mini-roundabout, however work on this section of the road will be complete by the end of this week and the lights removed. Further work to bring homes and businesses in the Nailsworth area onto our network continues and road closures will remain in place on Horsley Road.

"We apologise for the inconvenience however it is temporary.  Internet speeds are historically poor in this area and our full-fibre ultrafast network will allow residents to benefit from fast, reliable broadband speeds."
