NEW artwork showing how 1,500 new homes in a garden village could look have been released.

The images are an artist's interpretation of the plans for a new sustainable community with 1,500 homes which has been proposed on a site east of Slimbridge.

The images have been released by the project led by Gloucestershire County Council and Gloucestershire-based educational charity The Ernest Cook Trust who are jointly leading proposals for the new development east of Slimbridge.

They have been shared alongside a masterplan for the sustainable ‘Garden Village’ community of approximately 1,500 homes at Wisloe, which sets out the background, rationale and vision for the development.

Michael Birnie, property director at The Ernest Cook Trust, said: “These images and the masterplan show what could be achieved at Wisloe.

“The nation faces a challenge to build the homes we need whilst tackling the climate and ecological emergencies we face.

“As a responsible landowner The Ernest Cook Trust has an important role to play in tackling these issues by demonstrating how new homes can be designed and built in a way that recognises the importance of the environment.”

However, a residents’ campaign group called the Wisloe Action Group has opposed plans for the garden village.

They said the proposal would “destroy the very nature of what makes Slimbridge a wonderful place to live”, and that combined with other house building plans in the area, the development would essentially create a large town stretching from Slimbridge to Dursley.

People can find out more and view the masterplan at the project website www.wisloe.co.uk.
