The search for a developer to work with Stroud District Council to create a new waterside community in the heart of the Golden Valley opens today (Friday, October 29).

The council would like to appoint a developer who can help realise their vision for the unique waterside setting at the 10 acre Brimscombe Port site.

Demolition work has started, and the council continues to work with former tenant RUSH Skatepark and supporters in their search for a new home.

“The council has invested in this site to make it viable, and I am looking forward to the appointment of a developer who can work with us and the local community to regenerate this site in a way that meets the needs of both existing and future residents,” said Councillor Doina Cornell, Leader of Stroud District Council.

The council’s vision is for a sustainable residential-led mixed use community with innovative and inspiring design that integrates with the existing surroundings.

The council has secured funding for the scheme from Homes England (£2million) and the Government’s One Public Estate Land Release Fund (£776,000). The council has also committed £3million to the project.

The council has procured the design of the infrastructure on the site and achieved planning permission.

Demolition started this week and is programmed to take 16 weeks. The Listed Mill building will remain and continue to be occupied by the council's commercial tenants together with the Listed Salt House.

Nearby residents have been kept informed of the demolition work.

“We have talked a lot over the last few years about what Brimscombe Port could be,” said Councillor Cornell. “Today sees the start of us bringing that vision and those conversations to life.”

She said the council continues to recognise the valued contribution that temporary tenants including RUSH Skatepark made to the district and beyond.

“We had a very positive meeting with the Friends of RUSH Skatepark last week, and we continue to offer support in a number of ways to help find a new home,” she said.

“We are also pleased that The Grace Network has found a new home at Brimscombe Mills.”

The council is following the competitive dialogue procedure under the Public Contracts Regulations 2015 (the Regulations). The Contracts Notice can be found at https://www.contractsfinder.service.gov.uk/Notice/9b5a6edc-1e91-419a-9ae6-c00ca1f77093 for those wishing to bid.
