The number of coronavirus cases in the Stroud district increased by 109 in the last 24 hours, official figures show – and two more deaths were recorded.

A total of 16,410 people had been confirmed as testing positive for Covid-19 in Stroud when the UK coronavirus daily dashboard was updated on December 22 (Wednesday), up from 16,301 on Tuesday.

The rate of infection in Stroud now stands at 13,573 cases per 100,000 people, far lower than the England average of 17,516.

Across the UK, the number of recorded cases increased by 105,330 over the period, to 11,647,473.

The number of coronavirus deaths were revised down in the latest 24-hour period in Stroud.

The dashboard shows 206 people had died in the area by December 22 (Wednesday) – down from 207 on Tuesday.

It means there have been two deaths in the past week.

They were among 8,207 deaths recorded across the South West.

Latest data shows there have been 4,421 confirmed cases of Omicron in the region (see map below).

The figures also show that more than four in five people in Stroud have received two doses of a Covid-19 vaccine.

The latest figures show 92,566 people had received both jabs by December 21 (Tuesday) – 84% of those aged 12 and over, based on the number of people on the National Immunisation Management Service database.

Across England, 82% of people aged 12 and above had received a second dose of the jab.

Data from the UK coronavirus dashboard shows at least 16,441 people in Stroud received a booster or third vaccine dose in the week ending Monday, December 20 – the latest available data.

That was more than double the 6,467 extra jabs given the previous week.

Of the latest seven days, Thursday, December 16 saw the most extra jabs in arms (2,884) – the highest number since the NHS booster jab campaign was launched in mid-September.

A total of 71,034 people in Stroud had received a booster or third dose by Monday – at least 64% of people aged 12 and over, based on the number of people on the National Immunisation Management Service database.
