THE BARCLAYS Bank in the Stroud town centre has today closed for good.

The bank - which is in King Street - closed for the final time at 12pm this lunchtime, as expected.

Customers had been informed of the decision by letter in October.

Barclays claims it made the decision because customers were using it less often and the majority were now using alternative ways to bank.

It stated in a review that the counters at the Stroud branch had been 17 per cent quieter in the two years to March 2020.

Customers can visit any Post Office to withdraw or pay in cash.

The nearest to this branch are the Post Office on Russell Street as well as the free cash machine at Nationwide - also on King Street.

The nearest Barclays branches are in Cirencester, Cheltenham and Gloucester.
