Stonehouse Town veteran John Lear represented his country for the first time at the weekend.

The 64-year-old made his international debut for England Over 60s in a Tri-Nations tournament at Ocean Park Arena in Cardiff.

Playing at right back, John helped the Three Lions to a 2-0 victory over Wales in their opening game, before England were well beaten by tournament winners Northern Ireland the next day.

Physical tiredness, in John’s opinion, definitely affected many of the veterans who were playing their second game in two days.

John has made more than 250 appearances for Stonehouse Town and still turns out regularly for the 4ths in Stroud League Division 8.
