Stroud Town Council are helping police with CCTV footage from their cameras following a rape at Stroud Cemetery.

Officers are investigating the serious sexual assault that took place in Stroud Cemetery on on Saturday, May 7.

It is hoped that footage from Town Council-funded CCTV cameras at the former cemetery chapels will help in the investigation.

Police cordoned off the area of Stroud Cemetery and are keen to speak with anyone who was in the Bisley Road area between 9pm and 11pm on Saturday.

They are also appealing to motorists who had been in the area around this time and who have a dashcam to make contact with police.

The community policing team is increasing their patrols of the area, including throughout the night.

"Our thoughts are with the woman who experienced this horrific attack and we have given our full support to the police," said Stroud Mayor, Councillor Stella Parkes.

"We understand that such an incident will spark concerns in the community and we are pleased that the community policing team are responding to those worries and increasing their patrols in the area.

"We would encourage people who have concerns to make use of the variety of support that is available to ensure they feel safe.”

"Remember you can dial 101 for anything non-urgent that you may have witnessed and to call 999 if you feel under immediate threat," said Councillor Parkes.
