LAST week we brought you the news that Papa John's was coming to Stroud. 

The American pizza giant had to be given planning permission to change the use of the building as it was formerly a hairdressers.  

Permission was given in April after an application was made in February. 

The store is to open between 11am and 11pm every day of the week. 

The store will be located at Shop 4, Clarendon Court, London Road next to the Property Centre.

What is Papa John's?

Papa John’s is the fourth largest pizza delivery restaurant chain in the United States. 

According to the company’s website, there are more than 5,000 Papa Johns locations in 45 countries. 

Stiff competition in Stroud 

It will however will face stiff competition from some of the much-loved pizza parlours located in the centre of Stroud such as Sorrento Restaurante & Pizzeria, Domino’s Pizza, Best Kebab & Pizza House, Fat Toni’s Pizzeria, Caprinos Pizza Stroud, Crust Issues and Express Pizza and Kebab. 

Fat Toni’s also recently announced that they are going to open a new restaurant next to their existing Merrywalks store. 

Social media tease 

Papa John’s has been posting about its imminent opening on social media. 

“Guess who’s coming to town in the next few weeks?” read a post on Facebook. 

“We are opening a brand new Papa John’s store in Stroud very soon.”

Reaction from chairperson of Stroud’s Chamber of Trade

The news was welcomed by the chairperson of Stroud’s Chamber of Trade Tony Davey. 

“It’s great to see an empty retail premises put back into good usage, and to welcome another well-known brand into the town,” he said.
