THE Stroud MP Siobhan Baillie has revealed what she wants to happen amid Boris Johnson's impending resignation.

The Prime Minister is expected to resign this lunchtime although who will replace him is unknown at the moment.

It has been suggested that the PM wants to stay in his post until a leadership election takes place in the autumn before the Conservative Party conference.

Stroud MP Siobhan Baillie has however a different view, saying who she would prefer to be the interim leader.

"The Prime Minister has made the right decision to resign," she said.

"I have made it known that I would prefer the Deputy Prime Minister to take over immediately until a new leader of the party and Prime Minister is elected into position.

"I think this is also the best way for those ministers and aides who have resigned to go back to their posts for this interim period and continue the good work that is already in progress.

"The leadership contest will be quick and largely over the summer recess."
