The first residents have moved into affordable homes on the Great Oldbury estate which was visited by Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

The PM visited the site last year, where he demonstrated his brick-laying abilities during his first visit to Gloucestershire since the pandemic began.

During the visit Mr Johnson previously said: “This place is beautiful, who wouldn’t want to live here? It was voted the best place to live in the UK.”

The first houses at the Linden Homes development have nwo been transferred to housing association Bromford and are available for low-cost rent. 

Vistry Group, which is made up of Linden Homes, Bovis Homes and Vistry Partnerships, is building 178 new homes at the site - including 53 affordable properties ranging from one and two-bedroom flats to two, three and four-bedroom houses 

It joins the Great Oldbury development, where other developers have also nearly completed the construction of 1,350 new homes.

A further two Shared Ownership two-bedroom houses have also been handed over to Bromford.

Supriya Ray, managing director of Vistry Cotswolds, said: “We are happy to help local parents stay in the area and form an important part in the balance of this new neighbourhood.”
