A WOTTON man has been fined more than £200 for failing to have his dog on a lead.
Geoffrey Bryant, aged 66, of Mill Lane, Falfield, Wotton-under-Edge, failed to ensure his pet was on a lead at the seafront promenade in Weston-super-Mare on February 17.
This was against North Somerset Council’s Public Space Protection Order which requires dogs to be on leads.
Bryant did not attend court but did enter a guilty plea in his absence, which was accepted by the North Somerset Magistrates' Court at a hearing on September 2.
He was fined £40 and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £34 plus costs of £150.
Bryant was ordered by the court to pay the full amount of £224 in full by September 27.
Speaking after the case, a North Somerset Council spokesperson said: “Robust enforcement of Public Space Protection Orders is a key part of the action we’re taking to clean up our local area and make North Somerset a greener place to be.
“We hope our partnership with local authority support and enforcement of the PSPOs will lead to a reduction of overall offending. More information can be found on our website.”
The council spokesperson added that the defendant has now moved address and lives in Weston-super-Mare.
