STROUD MP Siobhan Baillie has set her position out following last night's crunch fracking vote.

The Government defeated Labour’s bid to ban fracking amid farcical scenes in the House of Commons yesterday.

Conservative whips initially stated the vote on whether to allocate Commons time to consider legislation to stop shale gas extraction was being treated as a “confidence motion” in Liz Truss’s embattled Government.

MP Siobhan Baillie said she does not know if she still has the Tory whip after she abstained from Wednesday night’s fracking vote.

She tweeted: “Environmental issues are hugely important to my constituents. I abstained on the vote last night, knowing the potential consequences. For those asking whether I am still a Conservative MP – I don’t know but I hope so

“I believe our 2019 manifesto position was right on fracking and I set out my thoughts about the issue recently.

“There was obviously no way I could or would vote in favour of the Labour motion.

"Please read it through.”
