AN INSPIRING woman from Stroud has been recognised for changing the game, one bean at a time.
Noni Morrison, owner of Noni's Coffee Roasters in Thrupp, has been recognised by coffee publication Barista Magazine ahead of International Women's Day.
She was named in the list for helping to close the gender gap in the male-dominated coffee industry as well as her environmental work.
Noni is the only woman from the UK to feature along with two other empowering female founders from Columbia and Italy.
“This is such an honour, I'm so excited to be considered a part of such an important change,” she said.
“It’s been tough to set up on my own, especially during a global pandemic, but I am passionate about coffee and the environment, and I love what I do.”
She started Noni’s Coffee Roasters - which is based in Kingfisher Business Park - after falling in love with v60 filter coffee on a mountain side in the French Alps.
Noni became interested in small-scale, sustainable, and specialty coffee production and travelled to Peru, Ethiopia, and Kenya to meet with workers and their families.
The independent company works directly with farmers and has collaborated with other organisations and charities such as Boss Morris, Bristol Drugs Project.
In Noni’s Las Guerreras range, coffee is grown by 14 female producers in Guerrerro, Mexico through local company Ensambles Coffee where the area suffers with high rates of poverty and marginalisation.
It is hoped that by supporting these small-scale farmers, their farms will continue to thrive, flourish and be empowered.
Rebecca from Ensambles Coffee added: “International Women’s Day is a date to commemorate the struggle of the different generations of women throughout history, seeking the right to vote, better working conditions and equality.
“These events are our references today to continue standing, raising our voices and fighting for the injustices that still exist against women, anywhere in the world, in a big city or in the most remote countryside, we are here and continue to resist every day.”
