DALE VINCE has waded in after two Just Stop Oil protesters disrupted the evening session of the World Snooker Championship in Sheffield.

Two people were arrested after Just Stop Oil protesters disrupted the evening session of the World Snooker Championship in Sheffield.

A man wearing a “Just Stop Oil” T-shirt interrupted the match between Robert Milkins and Joe Perry at the Crucible Theatre by jumping onto one of the tables and tipping out orange powder.

Stroud News and Journal:

A woman was prevented from executing a similar stunt on the other table by the referee Olivier Marteel.

Ecotricity founder and Forest Green Rovers chair Dale Vince said: "Good work from Just Stop Oil, noticed they called on sporting institutions to take action against government policy - we’re not an institution yet (Forest Green Rovers) but we agree with them."

Vince has also today appeared on national radio station Talksport where, among other things, he discussed the Just Stop Oil protest.

South Yorkshire Police said a 25-year-old man and a 52-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and are in police custody.

The force said in a statement: “Two people were detained after protesters gained entry to The Crucible earlier this evening.

“A 25-year-old man and a 52-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of criminal damage. Both are in police custody.”

In November The Football Association was accused of “hypocrisy” after it blocked a Forest Green from wearing ‘Just Stop Oil’ t-shirts in a warm-up.

Forest Green chairman Dale Vince says the FA prevented his team from wearing the t-shirts before their FA Cup tie against South Shields earlier this month, deeming it to be a political message.

In a letter he wrote to FA chief executive Mark Bullingham he said: “I felt compelled to write to ask if you were aware that the FA itself acted in the same fashion towards FGR as FIFA have towards the FA.

“Just Stop Oil is of course an environmental campaign and slogan. The people behind it and those that support it are apolitical.

"They seek the ending of exploration for new sources of fossil fuels, because of the energy crisis."
