COLUMN BY Chloe Turner, chair of Stroud District Council's environment committee.

IT’S Pride Month throughout June and we are proudly flying our new Pride flag in front of our Ebley Mill headquarters in Cainscross.

This is a very important month, which since the 1969 Stonewall riots, has been dedicated to the celebration and commemoration of LGBT pride, culture and rights.

The rainbow flag has become a symbol of LGBT culture and flying it shows our support.

Stroud News and Journal: Pride flag at Stroud District Council

You may have seen the headlines in the news about our much-loved lido in Stratford Park - we are doing all we can to get this much-loved community asset open and we are grateful to all the council officers, staff at Everyone Active and volunteers who have all been working hard to get it ready.

SGS College students have designed a bright mural in the changing rooms – a new feature this year

There have been delays due to weather and the age of the Lido (it opened in 1937 – it is 86 years old) which presents obstacles.

Opening hours have been extended and we will work with our contractor, Everyone Active, to try and extend the pool’s opening into September.

There will be two early morning lane swims each week and there will be two daily lane sessions available every day, in addition to two public sessions for all ages and abilities every day.

We are committed to apprenticeships at Stroud District Council and are running open events for potential candidates to learn more about what’s on offer.

If you would like to earn a recognised qualification while gaining practical work experience and receiving a salary with an award-winning employer, these roles may suit you.

The next open evening is on June 21, from 4pm-7pm, at Stroud District Council’s headquarters at Ebley Mill and there are roles in ICT services, housing contracts, planning, marketing at the Museum in the Park, customer services and property maintenance. June 13 sees Development Control Committee meet – don’t forget that meetings can be viewed at stroud.gov.uk/council-and-democracy
