Stroud District Council staff are on the streets today in areas affected by yesterday’s flooding and residents and businesses affected are also urged to get in touch if they need help.

Yesterday evening 65.5mm of rain fell in half an hour, leading to flash flooding in a number of areas centred around Stroud town, Cainscross and Rodborough.

Stroud District Council staff assisted residents who needed help, and this morning their Neighbourhood Wardens and colleagues are knocking on doors, and offering help, advice and support.

Council waste and recycling partner Ubico is street sweeping, alongside Gloucestershire County Council operatives.

SDC Leader Catherine Braun said: “Yesterday evening’s storm has caused residents and businesses significant inconvenience in some areas of our district.

"Our staff were assisting those affected last night and today they are out in those areas, offering help and support.

"I would urge anyone who needs help to contact us – we are here to help.”

Road closures

SDC’s Ebley Mill offices are open as normal, however due to road surface damage and underlying infrastructure possibly being damaged, Westward Road is closed to all traffic between the Greenaways and the Bridge Mead junctions.

Both those roads are open but vehicular access to SDC’s Ebley Mill offices is only possible from the west (from the Stonehouse direction).

Visitors from the eastbound end of Westward Road (from the Cainscross roundabout) should either take a diversion via the A419 Ebley bypass and Ebley Road, or park in the overspill visitor car park at Victory Park, off Church Road, off Westward Road (B4008) and take a five minute walk to Ebley Mill.

Satnav postcode is GL5 4LH. Gloucestershire Highways expects this closure to be in place until June 30.

Slad Road and Brick Row in Stroud town are also closed and diversions are in place.

These road closures are for everyone’s safety while damage is assessed by the highway authority Gloucestershire County Council, and Severn Trent.

Vehicles must not pass through the barriers.
