A CHARITY bookshop is celebrating its first anniversary. 

The Cotswold Canals Trust Charity Book and Music shop is celebrating its first year of trading in Stonehouse. 

Customers are invited to drop in on Saturday, August 5 between 10am and 4pm for refreshments and the chance to meet local authors, stay to listen to them reading from their works and learn more about the canal.

Located in Queens Road, Stonehouse, books range from a novel for your holiday, autobiography on your favourite cricketer to a reference book on how to grow vegetables.

The shop also sells CDs and LPs from all genres with prices ranging from 50p upwards.

Since opening, the bookshop has raised over £10,000 all of which goes towards to restoration of the Cotswold Canals.

The shop is volunteer led with over 25 volunteers helping out on a weekly basis, although more volunteers are needed. 

Mike Richter, bookshop manager, said: ‘The first year of trading has been a great success and we are proud to be able to raise so much money towards the canal restoration. 

"We are grateful for the generosity of our donors, customers  and volunteers who make it all possible’

The shop is open every Saturday, Wednesday and Friday between 10am and 4pm. 

Donations cannot be accepted at the shop in Stonehouse, although they can be taken to the Brimscombe unit.
