OUR nostalgia pictures this week take a look at the Holloway Factory and the bungalow at Whiteway Colony.
George Street in Stroud and a lovely image of Chalford complete our package this week.
The Holloway Factory was founded by Stroud MP George Holloway in 1849 and was the first in the country to introduce the powered sewing machine, changing the whole tailoring industry
It was also the first firm in Stroud to make ready-to-wear clothes, and by 1890 employed 1,500 workers.
The Whiteway Colony was established in 1898. A group of Tolstoyan anarchists bought 40 acres of land, then burnt the property deeds as a symbolic rejection of the notion of property. The settlement still exists today and continues to be run on a communal basis
All of these photographs and more can be found on the Facebook group Stroud Are Photos and Cotswolds Picture Postcards group.
