A NEW mini supermarket has opened its doors in a busy petrol station forecourt in Stonehouse.

A small Waitrose shop - known as Little Waitrose - has opened in the Shell Oldbury petrol station near junction 13 of the M5.

The new Waitrose store is part of a redevelopment of the site which started earlier this year in March.

The site - which is open 24/7 - has been completely transformed during construction, with the existing shop demolished and rebuilt with a new larger kiosk.

As part of the redevelopment, the car wash has also been removed with a new cycle rack and air and water machine installed as well as a new seating area.

New accessible toilets have also been built and car parking has been improved with 11 spaces.

Four new electric vehicle charging points are due to be installed in early 2024.

Meanwhile, the forecourt has changed, the number of vehicles that can be fueled at the same time has decreased from 12 to six.

The new store is the district's fourth Waitrose, with one already on London Road in Stroud, another at Michaelwood Services along the M5 plus a food hall at Dobbies at Haresfield.

The petrol station is located near the Great Oldbury development and neighbours a Travelogue, Subway, and Starbucks.
