A MUM, son and their friends are braving a head shave in honour of inspiring people in their lives who are currently undergoing cancer treatment.

Colleen Crowther and her son Tyrhys are taking part in the challenge next weekend with their friends Nikki Lewis and Zach Pugh who are all from the Dursley area.

Colleen, who works as a self-employed cleaner, says she wants to show her support to her five clients who have been diagnosed with the disease.

The shave will be carried out by local hairdressers from MillieNhair Innovations at an event at The Railway Inn in Cam on Saturday, September 30.

An online fundraiser has also been launched and so far approximately £515 has been raised for cancer support charity Maggie’s which has a centre in Cheltenham.

Colleen said: “Originally I was contemplating doing the bravehead shave alone, until I bumped into my friend Nikki.

“She said that she would love to join me as this was something she had always wanted to do and what better way than for a charity.

“My son Tyrhys and his friend Zach then said they would join in to help raise money, so it made me confident and determined to see it through.

“The reason for Maggie's charity is I'm a self employed cleaner and currently I have five amazing clients battling cancer and one of those inspirational women is terminal.

“Maggie's have been their support system for friends and family when dealing with such sad news.

“Three of my clients have lost their hair and I have seen what it meant to them, and that has made me want to do something to show my support.

“The others have friends and family battling cancer and want to show their support to everyone too.

"It's such a sad disease. Everyone somewhere has got a loved one battling cancer or has lost someone close to them.

“We are so nervous about doing this, I even contemplated doing a skydive again instead of the headshave.

“My son Tyrhys isn't looking forward to having no curls anymore.

“Zach and Nikki are also super nervous.

“When you've had hair for so long it's so nerve racking wondering what it's going to be like without hair.

“But each one of us knows it's for an amazing charity and our hair will definitely grow back at some point.

“Thank you to everyone who has already donated and been supporting us on this journey.

“We couldn't do it without your help and support.”

The event will take place at The Railway Inn in Cam on Saturday, September 30 from 1pm with a raffle, face painting, cake sale, tombola and food.

Colleen would like to thank The Railway Inn, The Lunch Basket, The Paint Panther and MillieNhair Innovations for their support.

Additionally thanks go to John Kerry And Sons, Gravity, Shanna's Infusion of Beauty, Cam Family Butchers, Dursley Kebab House and Stuart Grant Driving School for donating raffle prizes.
