THE CLOSURE of an 'established business' has come as a 'shock'.
Last week Thompson First MG, based in London Road, Bowbridge, shut.
The car dealership, which also provided MOT tests and other services, has been based at the location in one guise or another since 1972 - over 50 years.
The sudden closure of the business has shocked customers and the community.
Tony Davey, chair of Stroud Chamber of Trade, said: "The loss of such a long established business has come as quite a shock.
"I know many of their customers knew nothing until receiving an email from MG late last week.
"The staff there were well known, having worked there for many years, and we hope they are able to find alternative roles very soon.
"There is no question that they will be very much missed having served the community brilliantly over generations.
"Many sectors remain quite volatile in the current economic crisis and
vehicle usage (and purchase) continues to evolve as our behaviours change."
