A 21-YEAR-OLD woman from Painswick has been landed with an eye-watering legal bill after being caught without a ticket at Paddington station.

Harriet McCormick, aged 21, of Gloucester Street, Painswick, was caught without a £58 ticket on July 10.

She must now pay more than £850 after being prosecuted.

McCormick was fined £440 and must also pay £58 in compensation to Great Western Railway plus a £176 victim services surcharge and costs of £180.

The total of £854 must be paid by December 13.

The sentence was imposed at Westminster Magistrates Court on November 15 after the case was proved in her absence.

Such prosecutions are bought under the Regulation of Railways Act 1889.
