National Highways is advising road users that the A417 in Gloucestershire is closed in both directions between the A46 (Brockworth/Shurdington) and A436 (Air Balloon Roundabout).
Overnight roadworks on the southbound carriageway have overrun, and there have also been complications removing machinery from the site, which has caused the northbound closure.
Work is ongoing to reopen as soon as it’s safe to do so, but the road is likely to remain closed throughout peak traffic hours this morning.
A fully-signed diversion route is in place.
