THE LONELY TREE IN MEMORIAM JC. 29/12/2023
I’VE COME TO SEE IF IT’S TRUE!
MY OLD FRIEND’S PASSED AWAY
YOUR BRANCHES SCATTERED, ON THE GROUND,
YOUR TRUNK IN DISARRAY.
YOUR LEAVES HAVE GAINED THEIR FREEDOM,
AS WINTER GALES BLOW FREE.
YOUR ROOTS WILL SOON HAVE TURNED TO EARTH,
ALL GONE FROM YOU AND ME.
YOU WERE A FRIEND TO ALL WHO WALKED
THE COMMON BY NIGHT AND DAY,
YOU WERE A BEACON STANDING THERE,
HELPING US ON OUR WAY.
I’LL MISS YOU NOW THAT YOU’RE GONE, MY FRIEND
BUT MEMORIES ARE HELD IN MY MIND.
THE LONELY TREE WILL BE RECALLED,
REGALED BY HISTORY AND TIME.
