THE CHAIR of Dursley Rugby Ladies RFC was invited by Stroud MP Siobhan Baillie to a Downing Street reception this week honouring people across the country who bring communities together through sport.

Katie Thomson from the club joined Ms Baillie on Tuesday evening to go through the famous black door of No10 for the event.

She has worked hard for many years with her team to introduce as many women as they can to the sport, through skills, social events, fitness and those all-important match days.

Katie said: “I was so honoured to receive this invitation to Downing Street and meet with fellow nominated community sports champions.

"Thank you, Siobhan Baillie, for inviting and accompanying me!”

Ms Baillie said: “I was chuffed to invite Katie to this event where people like her are honoured for the work they do bringing communities together through sport and helping with fitness and mental wellbeing into the bargain.

“Without local sports champions, like Katie, who spend so much of their free time making sure clubs and activities run, our district would be a poorer place. 

"She is an inspiring woman on her own merit and I encourage everybody to follow the club on Instagram as I love their social media.”
