ROOMS at a Stroud hotel which recently opened are now available for booking.

The former Imperial, now known as the Stroud, has officially announced its grand opening.

Originally known as The Imperial, The Stroud Hotel was erected in 1863 by Benjamin Bucknall, an esteemed architect renowned for his Gothic Revival style.

Bucknall, who apprenticed under the legendary Viollet-le-Duc in France, crafted the hotel to cater to travellers from London and the Midlands, as well as local residents.

Over the years, the hotel has gone through various modifications, including the addition of a billiard room in 1867.

It passed through different hands, managed by individuals like Mr. Roberts, Mrs. Wade, and later Mrs. Frances Tealor Lawson.

In 1924, it changed ownership, heralding a new era as an "Artistic Lounge and Hotel Retreat." Despite several renovations, the hotel retained its original purpose, serving as both a hotel and restaurant.

In 1950, it underwent refurbishment coinciding with a visit from Princess Elizabeth.

Recognizing its historical significance, the hotel received Grade II listing during the Queen's Jubilee celebrations.

Ross Sanders, from AR Leisure said: “We are thrilled to unveil The Stroud Hotel.

"Our vision is to create a unique atmosphere where guests can immerse themselves in the beauty of the Cotswolds while enjoying exceptional hospitality and service."

A spokesperson added: "The Stroud Hotel features 24 bedrooms, each blending contemporary aesthetics with rustic charm for a comfortable and relaxing stay.
