TWO COACHES from Dursley Town Ladies' FC were invited to Wembley this week to mark the rise of women's football.
Dursley town entered the women's FA Cup this tear for the first time, making it to the second qualifying round before going out against Aek-Boko, who play in a higher league.
Stephanie Hill and Neil Sharp were both invited to the event at the iconic stadium where they were treated to food and drink and talks from guests including Lionesses legend Fara Williams plus current superstar and Arsenal player Alessia Russo.
Stephanie said: "We entered the FA Cup as a boost for our girls, a celebration of how far women’s football had come, particularly since the Euros success last year.
"We also won a little bit of money towards the club.
"As one of the long standing women’s clubs in the area, we are really trying to push our club forward.
"We are enrolling on courses and working to make the club more inclusive to all players, and have managed to source more sponsorship this season to help with kit and training kit etc.
"We were invited to the event at Wembley, hosted by WFA Cup sponsors Adobe to celebrate the rise of the women’s competition and football in general.
"We even got to pose with the cup in the Royal box!"
Dursley town ladies train on Thursday evenings.
In the winter this is at 7.30pm at Rednock School - in the summer training takes place on the same day but at 6.30pm at Dursley Rec.
