THE Keepers Community Hub in Wotton-under-Edge has been nominated for an award as the Best Community Project or Group in the Stroud News and Journal Community Awards.

The Community Hub has grown from the volunteer-led Wotton Area Mutual Aid group, which was set up to support people in Wotton-under-Edge and the surrounding area through the Coronavirus pandemic. They are based at The Keepers building, halfway along Symn Lane in Wotton-under-Edge, not far from the entrance to the Chipping Car Park and Blue Coat Primary school.

Chris Gordon, who made the nomination said: "Keepers started right in the middle of Covid to help out the wider community and now a registered charity providing food, training, advice, a warm place, gardening, volunteer opportunities, keeping healthy.

"We have over 100 volunteers providing a wide variety of services with the help of professional advisers like Citizen Advice, P3, NHS Social Prescribers, Age UK, Stroud District Council Housing Officers.

"Everything provided is on a Pay as You Feel Basis.

" We started a free Transportation scheme to bring people that have accessibility issues to our weekly lunches and cafes

"The garden has gone from strength to strength - reclaimed scrub land and now have well stocked raised beds providing food to our volunteers

"Keepers have supported over 10k individuals in the past year, over 10k volunteer hours, provided over 1k freezer meals, , have provided over 700 food bags, over 120 groups and professional service organisations have used The Keepers in the past year."
