ATTEMPTED burglars have been caught on CCTV attempting to raid a shop in Dursley earlier this month.

The dramatic footage shows three men outside Clifton Cameras in Parsonage Street before smashing their way into the store using a sledgehammer.

The group - who were wearing balaclavas, gloves and hooded tops - caused considerable damage to the shop in the early hours on Monday morning, March 4.

However, during the incident they were disturbed by the activation of a smoke device installed by the shop owner.

As a result the men left empty-handed, and Gloucestershire Police have now launched a public appeal to help identify the group.

A police spokesperson said: “The group were carrying distinctive backpacks and officers are appealing for anyone in the vicinity of Parsonage Street between 1.30am and 2.30am on March 4 who may have seen anything to come forward.

“Anyone who may have dash cam or CCTV covering that time is also asked to get in touch.”

The shop previously had around £100,000 worth of items stolen in June last year.
