A BLOCK of toilets in Wotton have been closed after repeated vandal attacks, officials say.

The public toilets located at the Rope Walk - between Long Street and the Chipping car park - are currently shut.

Stroud District Council has posted images of the damage caused, which includes broken pipes, a broken door, a smashed hand wash station, and a blocked toilet.

A council spokesperson said: “We have been forced to temporarily close the public toilets in Rope Walk, Wotton-under-Edge because of repeated vandalism.

“We are fixing the damage and installing CCTV cameras, funded jointly with the town council, in an effort to deter vandals.

“The toilets will reopen as soon as possible.

“If anyone has any information about the damage please contact the police by telephoning 101.”

The incident comes after the Bedford Street public toilets in Stroud were also temporarily shut for 12 days after high levels of bacteria were discovered.

The Rope Walk toilets are usually open between 7am and 7pm.

According to the district council’s website, the site includes one unisex/ disabled access cubicle, two women’s cubicles and three men’s cubicles.
