SIX potential plots have been chosen for allotments in Painswick, it was revealed at a parish council meeting on Wednesday.

A working party consisting of three councillors discussed potential sites with residents and landowners after the issue divided villagers last summer.

Around 30 residents showed an interest in having allotments, which meant the parish council was under obligation to provide them.

But when the parish council voted to go ahead with a scheme for 40 allotments on land at Gyde field - a conservation area - many villagers objected.

The scheme was scrapped after an opponent threatened the council with legal action.

Now six potential sites will be discussed during a month long consultation with villagers.

One of the sites to be discussed is Gyde field - the site which raised objections.

The other potential sites are: Resthaven orchard site, Resthaven open field, both in Pitchcombe, land at Tibbiwell Lane, Gyde triangle off Gyde Road, and land at Juniper Hill off Wick Street.

The consultation ends on Friday, April 16.The working party will then make a recommendation and full council will vote on which site will be used.
