CONCERNS were raised about stray golf balls hitting potential allotment holders and their cars if plans were given the go-ahead for 30 plots on land at Mop Tree, at a Painswick Parish Council meeting on Wednesday, July 21.

At a special public meeting last month, the allotment working group recommended the parish council chose land at Mop Tree, next to Painswick Golf Club, for the plots after investigating seven sites and weighing up public opinion and an independent site assessment.

A decision about whether the parish council would agree to lease the site was due at last Wednesday's meeting.

However letters of concern from both Painswick Golf Club and a neighbouring resident stalled a decision.

Roy Wallace, who lives near the site, said: "My cottage faces the fairway.

"Every week I pick up five golf balls that have strayed off the course.

"I have already had a car window smashed and a panel of my car dented.

"My concern is that if allotments are placed there, people who park nearby will have their cars damaged."

The letter from Painswick Golf Club also raised concerns about a potential car park for allotment holders.

Painswick Parish Council agreed to look into the practicalities of leasing the land and will make a final decision at their September meeting.
