A NEW community centre has opened on the Park Estate in Stonehouse which provides a range of services including computer and internet access and information on training for jobs.
Called All Pulling Together (APT), the centre in Park Parade was opened recently by Stroud MP Neil Carmichael and Stonehouse mayor Mattie Ross.
The idea for a community venue was sparked by PCSO Tracy Wren, who recognised a need for a centre where residents could get advice and support.
Representatives from the Citizen’s Advice Bureau and officers from Stroud District Council will be available for advice while Gloucestershire Gateway Trust is funding the rent.
Cllr Mattie Ross said she was delighted to see the community working together.
"What has been most overwhelming has been seeing residents eager to take on this good work and take control of this project which already is and will continue to be a valuable asset to the people who live here," she said.
Malcolm Francis, 57, a resident of Park Estate and a member of the APT community association, said: "The building is about something positive. We are just a group of ordinary people who want to make this a better place."
The centre is open on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays - times have yet to be confirmed.
