TALENTED student Ran Stallard was the youngest of 20 artists from across the UK handpicked to paint, sketch and draw the Diamond Jubilee pageant flotilla down the River Thames.
Ran, 19, who is in the final weeks of a foundation art course at Stroud College, produced an intricate ink, acrylic and chalk drawing of the 1000-strong flotilla alongside a host of other artists on Millennium Bridge on Sunday, June 3.
She was selected for the BBC project after her mum Claire – a member of the Society for All Artists (SAA) – was tipped off about the event and persuaded her to enter.
"I was amazed, especially because I had an email back straight away saying there was unprecedented interest in it," said Ran, who lives in Chalford.
The opportunity tied in neatly with Ran’s college project, entitled ‘Get the Queen’s Attention’, which features a Buckingham Palace-style photo booth where visitors can have their picture taken with Her Majesty.
Despite the rain meaning she had to finish her drawing at home from photos, she now plans to print copies of the artwork to fund her studies at the London Advertising School from September.
"It was the most prestigious thing I have ever done," added Ran.
"That was the first time I had ever worked in an environment with other artists and because I was youngest there it was a big honour to be selected."
