SUNNY weather and spectacular views made the summer meeting of local historians a memorable success.
Seventy local historians from all over the county gathered at the Stonehouse Community Centre on Saturday, July 6 for the summer meeting of the Gloucestershire Local History Association. The meeting was hosted by Stonehouse History Group whose committee members had prepared a display on the history of the town, which those attending had the chance to view during the afternoon.
Vicki Walker, the Stonehouse History Group's secretary began the meeting with an introduction to the history of the town followed by walking tours of the area.
Each tour focused on a different aspect of the town's past - the development of the high street, St Cyr's Church in Church Lane, the Stroudwater canal and mills and the impact of the Second World War on the town. Walkers returned to the Community Centre for sandwiches, cakes and scones prepared and served by Stonehouse WI.
