MEMBERS enjoyed a Garden Party on the evening of June 25, held at the well tended gardens of Fiona and David of the Grange.

Thanks to both for letting us have the use of their beautiful garden.

The weather was kind to us, being warm and sunny and with good company and refreshments, what more could we ask.

We followed this with an outing to Bristol Harbour on July 9, again the weather being perfect.

Forty members left the Village Hall by coach but unfortunately due to a lorry fire in the Bristol Basin, our journey was delayed by 45 minutes.

However we arrived in time to see The Mathew, the replica of John Cabbot's ship which crossed the Atlantic in the seventeen hundreds sailing in the Harbour.

We then boarded our glass barge Bagheera, for a cruise around the docks with an interesting commentary, passing a 1934 Fire boat and the Mayflower 183 years old, both still in working order.

In the 1200s, the dock basin was dug out by hand, taking seven years to finish.

During that time 12 oxen were eaten, 50 barrels of bear was consumed and 11 people disappeared without trace.

On the return journey we had a lovely meal - complete with wine of course.

We passed alongside the SS Great Britain who looked wonderful, passing three Herons along the way. Our coach arrived back in Leonard Stanley at 10.15 pm, with all of us having a great time.

Many thanks to Tim Vale who organised this.
