ON November 26 the Club Chairman, Robert Crockford, presented a musical cocktail of composers beginning with SCH...!
There was music from the 17th to the 20th centuries with, in the first half, pieces by the likes of Scheidt, Schutz, Schmelzer, Schonberg (x two), Schnittke and Schickele, ranging from Baroque to Parody.
The star turn was the scherzo from Scharwenka's lively virtuoso Fourth Piano Concerto.
After the break there was more serious listening, including piano pieces and Lieder by Schumann (Clara and Robert) and Franz Schubert.
However, the 'slow' scherzo from Schumann's Rhenish Symphony and the inspiring scherzo from Schubert's Great C major Symphony showed just what a tonic great music can be.
