Upton St Leonards WI: AGM

OUR November evening was opened by president, Diane Thomas, after the singing of Jerusalem.

Diane gave a good account of all the years happenings, from January's talk on 'Strength in Life' by Trish Tenn to the present day.

In between we have had socials, workshops, lunches at various venues and two trips in the summer.

In June we visited Dyffryn House and Gardens near Cardiff and August was a tranquil, peaceful ride on Gloucester Canal with a cream tea and enjoyed by us all.

Our highlight of the year was our fashion show in April, where eight of us models paraded the cat walk; Kate Moss had nothing on us.

Diane thanked all her committee and everyone's backing without whom our programmes would not have been so successful.

Secretary, Pam Kidgell, and treasurer, Jill Whiting, also gave reports.

After these reports, Diane opened the AGM giving all the names of the committee prepared to stand, these were proposed and seconded.

Diane was re-elected as president, also Pam as secretary and Jill as treasurer.

Two new ladies joined, Jan and Jean, they were warmly welcomed on.

Lynne Cook came off after serving loyally for eight years, she received a lovely bouquet of flowers from Jill.

We ended our evening with a fun quiz set by Pam and Jill.

Our president also thanked Pauline Windo and Judy Eaketts who for six years raised money towards funds from the Shooting Club.

Members praised the group social, Octoberfest hosted by Larkhay WI.

Some of us danced to the Ukelele Band who played whilst we all enjoyed hot dogs and apple pie, home-made of course.

Shoe boxes were collected by the Romanian Appeal.

A new lady, Anna Burn from Abbeydale visited and we hope to see her again.

We are all very grateful to our committee standing again for another year, also Jean and Jan joining them.

Our AGM turned into a very enjoyable social evening, plus the quiz.

We meet again in Upton St Leonards Village Hall on Monday, December 5, at 7.30pm for a 'Victorian Christmas' speaker from Time to Time.

Trade and table raffle.

All ladies very welcome.
