LEONARD Stanley WI asked villagers to make knitted poppies to remember 100 years since the end of World War I and were extremely pleased with the response (cira 2,000) which resulted in us having two wooden crosses made which members of the WI covered with red poppies.
We also decorated the water trough outside the church in purple poppies to remember the many horse, dogs and pigeons etc who were involved.
Poppies not used were donated to our parish church St Swithin's church to amalgamated them with theirs to make a cascade of poppies from church tower to floor which is floodlit at night.
