MADAM – Another week, another column from our MP full of errors full of mistruths, this time on the Tory incinerator at Javelin Park.
Rather than, for once, trying to stand up for constituents against his government, he takes the opportunity to fire shots at the Labour Party (you would almost think there’s an election in a few months).
He states that in an alternative plan report “Labour still concluded a waste-to-energy plant should be first priority for the site”.
This is wrong a lie – firstly, it was a cross-party group, including the Greens, Lib Dems, Labour and yes, Neil’s own party, the Tories.
Secondly, the group made three realistic alternatives to the monstrosity planned at Javelin Park; a smaller incinerator (interestingly the option overwhelmingly supported by Mr Carmichael), a cheaper Mechanical Treatment Plant, or no incinerator.
Finally, he states “only a successful judicial review” could stop the plans now.
Wrong – the only way that this will be stopped is for his Tory colleagues at the county council to listen to the thousands of people of Stroud and cancel the contract.
Frankly, I expected nothing less from our MP, who has been nothing other than the government’s man in Stroud.
Thank goodness that in May, we can finally re-elect Stroud’s voice in Westminster – David Drew.
