AN ELECTION leaflet which landed in my post box recently said that the Conservatives would ‘stick to the local plan and bring transparency and consistency to planning decisions’.

The wording suggests that the plan has not been stuck to and that planning decisions have not recently been consistent or transparent.

As the chairman of SDC’s development control committee for the last 14 months, I challenge this suggestion and the implied criticism of the people involved.

At no time during that period has there been any suggestion of impropriety in the planning system, certainly not in the local press.

Had anyone brought concerns to my attention, then I would have taken appropriate steps to address these. It appears that political propaganda is being made by a promise to fix something which does not need fixing.
