MARQUEE signing Liam Noble has vowed to curb his red card count after joining Forest Green on a two-year deal.

The midfield lynchpin racked up three red cards at Notts County last season, but the 25-year-old insists he will eradicate this from his game.

“I just need to cut those silly red cards out of my game. It’s important I learn from my past mistakes and just concentrate on playing,” said the midfielder, who scored 16 goals in two seasons with the League Two outfit and was last season's leading creator.

Stroud News and Journal:

Noble arrived on a free transfer at Notts under former boss Shaun Derry in the summer of 2014, having been released by Carlisle - and cut his early footballing teeth at Premier League Sunderland.

And it was Forest Green’s ambition and a chance to work with Mark Cooper, which proved the tempting factors on him agreeing to drop out of the league for the first time in his career.

He added: “I knew a bit about FGR from making the play-offs last season, but the main thing was I really enjoyed working with Mark Cooper at Notts County.

“On a day to day basis he’s brilliant, he get’s on with everyone and as long as you’re working hard, he’ll repay you. You just need to give him everything you’ve got.

“His style of play is how I like to play the game, so the chance to work with him again was a big draw.

“And then once I came down to the club, spoke to directors about the expectations of the club, that they want to go on to bigger and better things – that was a big part of my decision.

“Also I’ve signed a two-year deal, so to try and achieve promotion – which I haven’t done before in my career – and get the club into League Two. That was a big incentive.”

Noble is keen to become a popular figure with the fans and he has promised to give it his all with an ethos of ‘footballing’ the club out of the National League .

“From the moment I step onto the pitch I give 100%, my style of play is about creating chances and scoring goals.

“From the fans point of view, they’ll see exciting football – I’m 100% sure it there will be no direct football with lots of long-balls. But he’ll want us to play nice football at the right times and the right parts of the field, not around our own box.

“And in that final third of the pitch, he’ll want us to express ourselves.”

The Newcastle-based player will use the club hostel during the season and is familiar with two of his new team-mates.

He added: “ I know Drissa Traore from when he was at Notts County the season before last and I’ve played against big Jon Parkin a few times but apart from that it will be a fresh start.”
