GFA 1st round
Shortwood United Development 2
Cirencester Academy 5
DEVELOPMENT boss Nick Ackland was left to contemplate a raft of missed chances as his side bowed out of the GFA cup, writes Jim Cunneen.
Wood felt they had two goals ruled out on a frustrating night for the Nailsworth side.
“We gave the ball away too often and in bad positions and missed several chances, but on a positive note we worked really hard, " said Ackland.
Gadger fired Cirencester into the lead after 24 minutes, but Wood were level after 27 minutes when Blackah put Singh through to score.
Cirencester restored their lead when Day fired home from close range. Again Wood came back and levelled through Blackah just before the break – running on and rounding the keeper before sliding the ball home.
Cirencester restored the lead after 53 minutes. Roberts curling home a superb free-kick from 20 yards and Liam James and Josh made the score safe with further goals.
Wood should have reduced the arrears when David Regula ran past two defenders to score, but Blackah was ruled to be in an offside position to deny Wood a further consolation
