Avonvale Utd.......................................... 3
Alkerton Rangers..................................... 1
Profligacy in front of goal cost Alkerton dearly on sticky pitch at Shipton Moyne.
It was looking good early on as the Snakey Lane outfit has the majority of the possession. Kirk Wilkinson and Henry Turner linked well in midfield with Charlie Henry and Dave Potter willing runners up front.
On 20 minutes Lewis Vanstone gave the green-and-whites the lead as his effort from the left curled beyond the Avonvale stopper.
Dave Potter then had a glorious chance to extend Alkerton’s advantage but after changing down a clearance his delicate chip fell the wrong side of the crossbar.
The Tetbury side drew level on 42 minutes when a superb long-range strike flew into the top corner. Immediately after the half-time oranges Henry ought to have restored his team’s lead but shot wide with just the custodian to beat.
Avonvale then stepped up their game and went ahead through a solo effort.
Henry then brought an excellent save from the home keeper before Chris Stark in the Alkerton goal repelled a near-post drive.
Into the last quarter, sloppy defending allowed Avonvale a third. The Eastington eleven did create opportunities to get something from the game but after a mazy run Turner lost his footing just as he was about to pull the trigger, and Potter side-footed over after a great run and cross from Lewis Vanstone.
A bad day at the office was Alkerton boss Kev Bond’s post-match summary of his charges’ display.
