Sam Russell sent a heartfelt tweet to Forest Green fans after he was afforded warm applause during Rovers' final game of the season.
Rovers lost 3-0 to Grimsby Town, but fans stood to clap the popular goalkeeper when the clock ticked to his shirt number 23.
Russell who had two spells at The New Lawn, helping Rovers to the Football League for the first time in their history. He lost his jersey to Chelsea loanee Brad Collins this season and exits the New Lawn alongside Dale Bennett and Keanu Marsh-Brown.
