FOREST Green Rovers midfielder Reece Brown has been enjoying playing in a deeper role this season.

The 22-year-old has been playing in a midfield three with Carl Winchester and Lloyd James for much of the season.

Brown has earned a lot of praise so far for his performances and he feels well suited to the role.

"It's been good so far," he said. "I'm playing a bit deeper, trying to start attacks and find the boys in good areas and so far it's working out.

"I've played there before so it's not a new role to me, last couple of years I've played as a ten so it's just sitting back into it and getting used to it."

Brown was playing in a number ten role last season but says he has no preference as to which midfield position he prefers although he has liked playing alongside Winchester and James.

"I'm not the most fussy, as long as I'm in the centre of the field," he explained. "I just like to get on the ball and play.

"We've all gelled pretty quickly and pretty well and Lloyd and Carl have been a big help to me and just continue it."

There is one thing frustrating the former Birmingham City man though. He is yet to find the net so far this season but not for the want of trying.

"It's irritating, missed the target or even when I hit it the keeper seems to save it so I'll keep shooting and hopefully one will fly in."

Rovers take on bottom of the table Macclesfield Town on Saturday, who also suffered an 8-0 defeat away at West Ham United in the Carabao Cup and Brown is keen for Forest Green to make a quick start at Moss Rose.

"I remember playing them last year in the cup," he said. "If we go out there and get an early goal to settle the game down, we can take control from there and hopefully we get the same result again."

"It was a great feeling to finally get it, think we could have had it in previous games this season but good to finally get the win.

Mark Cooper's men got their first home win last weekend and the midfielder was pleased to get the home victory and a clean sheet which he hopes can be used as a platform to go on a winning run.

"I don't mind how we win because a wins a win but to keep a clean sheet was even better so hopefully we'll go on a run now."
