STROUD boxer Max Mudway is punching his way to the top.
The 22-year-old former Maidenhill student has penned his first professional contract after agreeing terms with his mentor Jon Pitman at the Fight Factory gym in Gloucester.
Mudway, who will be boxing in the light middleweight division, said: “I’ve been boxing at amateur level for nine years, winning 21 of my 26 fights and have now finally decided to take my next step into the professional ranks and try and make a name for myself and put little Stroud on the map.
"I’ve just signed my pro-contract with Birmingham-based Jon Pegg as my manager and Jon Pitman will be coaching me throughout my journey.”
Mudway is not afraid of hard work - running eight miles in the morning before work and then spending up to two hours, six days a week.
“ I’m looking to make my pro debut on December 8 in Swindon at the MECCA, so I’m training flat out at the moment.”
Max has secured sponsors who are helping towards costs.
"I would like to thank Planet Logistics, Connect Carpentry, The Goodness Kitchen, RSG Construction and Bespoke MDF."
